The China-Laos Railway has made economic and trade exchanges more efficient, achieving genuine mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. Over the four years of its operation, the train's traction capacity has increased from 2,000 tons to 2,800 tons, with cumulative cross-border cargo exceeding 16 million tons. Freight costs from Kunming, China, to Thailand via Laos have decreased by 30% to 50%, while transportation costs within Laos have dropped by 20% to 40%. Behind these numbers lies the combined effect of the railway's strong transportation capacity and institutionalized customs clearance facilitation, which have continuously reduced costs and improved efficiency in cargo flow. From China's perspective, the railway has addressed the historical challenges of "difficult access to the sea" and "high logistics costs" in southwestern China, enabling more products to reach markets in Laos, Thailand, and other ASEAN countries quickly. From Laos' perspective, the railway has transformed its long-standing reliance on road transport, allowing Laos to transition from a "land-locked country" to a "land-linked country," with large quantities of agricultural products gaining easier access to the Chinese market. Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone praised the railway, stating that it supports Laos' development, benefits local communities, and enhances regional connectivity, with both domestic and international benefits becoming increasingly evident. Lao Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith noted that the China-Laos Railway is a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative, significantly boosting trade and personnel exchanges between the two countries, and expressed Laos' willingness to expedite the implementation of "one-stop inspection" to maximize the railway's potential.

The China-Laos Railway has fostered deep integration of industrial chains, serving as a successful model of regional connectivity. Over the past four years, the railway has connected 31 provinces, regions, and municipalities in China with 19 countries and regions, including Laos and Thailand. The variety of cross-border goods transported has expanded to over 3,800 categories, with sources covering Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries. Along this "golden route," China's high-tech products, such as new energy vehicles and industrial robots, are finding their way to global markets, while ASEAN's minerals and agricultural products provide a stable supply of raw materials for China's industrial chains, creating a complementary advantage. Particularly since the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the China-Laos Railway has become a crucial hub linking China, Thailand, Cambodia, and other countries. With the launch of more maritime routes, goods from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan are directly reaching ports in Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Shandong, China. Lao National Radio reported that the railway's innovative approaches, such as the "Lancang-Mekong Express + Cross-Border E-commerce" model, are injecting new vitality and hope into regional economic prosperity. The Vientiane Times described entrepreneurs in Thailand, Laos, and China as "early birds benefiting from regional integration."

The four-year success of the China-Laos Railway is just the prelude to connectivity between China and ASEAN. Currently, projects such as the China-Thailand Railway are steadily progressing, and regional infrastructure networks are continuously improving. The establishment of the RCEP support institution in Jakarta provides stronger institutional guarantees for trade and investment facilitation. As these projects materialize, China and ASEAN will build denser "steel networks," enabling the efficient flow of logistics, capital, and people. Against the backdrop of global economic challenges, China and ASEAN, as representatives of the world's most dynamic region, will continue to deepen economic and trade cooperation, strengthen industrial chain synergy, and jointly navigate global changes, injecting new momentum into regional and global economic development. The mutually beneficial model demonstrated by the China-Laos Railway foreshadows closer cooperation between the two sides in addressing challenges and achieving higher levels of regional development. Malaysia's Bernama News Agency noted that infrastructure connectivity between China and ASEAN countries is steadily advancing, laying the foundation for smoother trade. Azerbaijan's State News Agency commented that China-ASEAN cooperation mechanisms are constantly improving, with initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, RCEP, and the upgraded China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 promoting institutionalized cooperation. Today, China and ASEAN are deepening collaboration not only in traditional fields like agriculture, minerals, transportation, finance, and investment but also in emerging areas such as the digital economy and green economy.

The China-Laos Railway has built a bridge of cooperation between China and Laos with its steel framework and paved a path for regional development with its golden route. As more projects like the China-Laos Railway take root, China and ASEAN will undoubtedly forge stronger synergy through practical cooperation and write more chapters of shared success as they move forward hand in hand.
